Here's my post in response. Sorry no line breaks, the Newsok site took them out when i submitted. No need to read it all really unless you just want to, it's basically the same ol' commandments arguments i've heard popular atheists give. Nothing original really.
Let's examine the commandments that our 'nations law is founded upon": The first four are worshipping instructions aren't they?. What does that have to do with the nation's law? ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' Nope. no law in the nation based on this one. TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image (like a stone monument maybe?)--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.' THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.' again. not illegal. FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.' FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.' What law is this? What if your father molests or rapes you? What if your mother abandons you? Should we still honor them? SIX: 'You shall not murder.' Here's one we can all agree on. But really? We need a book to tell us murdering someone is bad? Of course unless your supernatural guide commands you to commit genocide as exhibited throughout the OT in which we find these 'commandments' SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.' There's no law against adultery. EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.' good one, but kind of a no brainer. NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.' Dishonesty is bad of course in most situations, but again, it's not against the law is it? TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.' Here we see another example of the women of the buy-bull being treated as a man's possessions along with his donkey and his slaves. Nice. We all know that wanting to drive a Hummer like your neighbors, or wishing you had a suit as expensive as your pastor are horrible crimes punishable by law. Why no commandments against slavery, or child abuse, or rape? We DO have laws against these things yet they're not mentioned, save for slavery which is advocated, in the ancient book of myth upon which our nations is supposedly founded. What a load of crap and waste of taxpayer dollars even discussing this BS. I don't care who pays for the thing, it's worthless, bigoted against non-judeochristians, and is an embarrassment to us all. That this is a priority for this jackass over fixing our children's schools, our roads our economy, is telling. He's more interested in pandering to his voter base to get 'advancement' for himself than anything else. Sad.
